For Pregnancy
If we understand that birth is an initiation, there is much to do to prepare! In a private somatic session with Dawn you will receive holistic support for your pregnancy, labor and birth.
In a pregnancy session we may use yoga, reiki energy and/or somatic movement.
Birth and Pregnancy Coaching
What questions do you have about birth? What do you need help with in pregnancy? Do you need to make a plan for postpartum? (The answer is YES!) Maybe you don’t have time for a full childbirth class. Or maybe this is not your first birth so you don’t feel like you need a whole class, but you still have questions! Instead of being in a class setting, you will have my undivided attention and we can traverse whatever topics or questions that you have. We will take an holistic approach to preparing for labor and birth. You get to pick my brain.
Somatic Birth Preparation
Your typical childbirth preparation will not fully equip you with the body-based skills that you will need for labor, birth and postpartum. It is one thing to learn about your options for medication and pain relief. It is another thing entirely to understand how your system works and will respond during labor and birth.
It is my firm belief that we birth the way we live, and most of us will need a shift in perspective in order to access the full surrender required of birth. Somatic birth preparation means practicing birth by shifting small things incrementally in our daily lives.
Have you experienced birth trauma? Or other sexual/gynecological boundary violations? In a one on one session we can work through these events from the body’s vantage point so that you have access to more power and ease in your birth.

Postpartum Planning
It is crucial to plan well for your time after birth. And the time to do that is in pregnancy! We will take an holistic approach to preparing for postpartum that includes logistical, physical, emotional and energetic solutions.
Birth Story Listening
A vital part of integration after birth is knowing your story, and it may take many tellings of your birth story to fully understand it. Making meaning out of your experience creates coherence in your body-mind system which sets a foundation of strength and resilience for your mothering. In a birth story session I will listen without judgement and help you to identify and then integrate challenges or difficulties that you experienced. Even if you don’t feel your birth was traumatic, there may still be residue that needs to be released.
Somatic Postpartum Repair
Physical and emotional nourishment are a vital part of postpartum recovery. After the birth of a baby, regardless of the method or outcome, a physical and energetic space is open and empty within mother. All mothers need to integrate the birth experience in order to gain wholeness, capacity and power in motherhood. In a somatic postpartum repair session I may use the Holding the Bones somatic repair practice that I learned from Kimberly Johnson. In this work there may be gentle hands-on guidance that will help you connect to your birth through each of the five channels of awareness (thoughts, images, movement, emotions, sensations) in order to repair, release and integrate energy that was trapped or needs to move. Dawn creates an ambience of warmth and safety.
She doesn’t pressure you to know “where to start”, but she does guide you through the complex process of postpartum emotions. She guided me to accept the experience and what is. However, she never encouraged me to discount my experience by saying anything like “at least you have a healthy baby!” It matters how I feel too, and I felt that completely with Dawn. The icing on the cake was the guided meditation. I had no idea I’d be on a journey not only to accept myself and my body today, but also to accept the past versions of myself going back years. It was so cathartic, and I was surprised when I almost started sobbing at the end of the mediation. If you’re wondering if you should do this with Dawn, don’t, and just do it! It really was a mind altering experience for me in the most positive way.
